Hey, I am a media publishing student with a keen interest in graphic design. In order for me to produce the poster you see before you, I had to conduct thorough and detailed research into the target audience, and into the health risks unprotected sex offers.
The tagline is the main impact of this advertisement. The play on words is what I feel may attract viewers to this advert. I have also given the opportunity for the tagline to change to 'this christmas' or 'this new year'. By doing this Durex can use the poster for various times in the year.
Primarily I have looked in detail at the HIV implications to unprotected sex, rather than pregnancies because with one apsect to look at, it will give me more time and scope to produce a highly detailed and clever poster.
Thankyou for taking the time to read this and view
should you really be making light of such a horrible disease? it is a very nice photo however, even if the type below is too fine.
6th Nov 2007 12:16pm
very very very wel done. but i bet some people will say its bad because they dont get it. personaly i think its amazing
6th Nov 2007 1:17pm
its not making light of a disease as said above. it is practically perfect in every way
6th Nov 2007 1:18pm
I love this! its eyecatching and different compared with the other posters i have seen. I like that the HI V and YOU is in bold. It will deffinatly get peoples attention. Well done!
6th Nov 2007 2:09pm
The I should be next to the V instead of the H. liek the idea and the way it takes a minute to figure out though.
7th Nov 2007 10:42am
are you having a laugh? to distinguish the quote 'high five' from HIV i have had to that. otherwise it would just say HIV, which isnt what I wanted to put across
8th Nov 2007 9:22am
Yes.
8th Nov 2007 9:30am
This poster is great! Clever play-on-words with concise and powerful images and text make this advert a strong candidate.
8th Nov 2007 9:33am
cool idea needs better font and it could be a winner!
8th Nov 2007 11:21am
awesome poster. i like the message you are trying to tell people. use of words is great. the choice of text could have been better though
8th Nov 2007 11:28pm
yeah its good
8th Nov 2007 11:32pm
jon, you are a genius !!! not only are you great at design you can carry off wearing a green shirt and grey tie combo !!!! when can you start working for me fulltime?
9th Nov 2007 10:48am
this is the best poster on here the brief said to encourage people to use a condom but having a message that will make people think of the risk. this does that very well. and if i saw this on a toilt door then i would very much take notice. very well done
9th Nov 2007 1:54pm
WITHOUT A DOUBT A WINNNER!!!!
9th Nov 2007 2:05pm
sort the font out and this is by the far the best on here..
9th Nov 2007 2:20pm
this is the best poster ive seen on here. it deserves to win first place. amazing. the colour is beautiful and you have chosen a gorgeous image. perhaps the text is a little thin but im sure people will look past that. in fact if u click the poster, you can see it isnt that thin. again, wonderful. makes me want to be safe! :-]
9th Nov 2007 2:31pm
amazing :) fairplay this is well good
9th Nov 2007 2:50pm
superbly executed. i would never have been able to think of that! well done.
9th Nov 2007 2:57pm
wow. this is powerful, but do you think a dopey person will get it in the street?
9th Nov 2007 3:03pm
AWESOME. so clever.
9th Nov 2007 8:49pm
not everyone is going to see it means hi 5, also a very dull picture and font, needs alot more work, sorry.
9th Nov 2007 9:20pm
took me ages to get it? ugly design
11th Nov 2007 4:56pm
how is taking ages to get it, a bad thing? im sure the aim is for people to take a second look. i had to take a second look but when i got it then it was the worth the thinking. well done and people need to get a grip if they dont get it. this is by far the most cleverest, and the majority of adverts these days are clever.
11th Nov 2007 5:44pm
well i was going to post up my poster but having seen this, il give it a miss. clear winner and my favourite
11th Nov 2007 5:54pm
so them hands, are they girls?
11th Nov 2007 6:31pm
super premise. superbly executed. easily deserving of the top 3.
11th Nov 2007 6:45pm
cool idea maybe change the font, would ppl undersand it tho?
11th Nov 2007 7:00pm
yer man defo! awsome poster if u ask me... i get it :)
11th Nov 2007 7:26pm
not eye catching but gd idea
12th Nov 2007 2:47pm
i love it m8 the concept is really god and the tag line is very well thought of but i agree with the idea of maybe change the font but its a big yes from me!!!!! x
12th Nov 2007 10:26pm
took me a few seconds to work it out but yeh i like it
13th Nov 2007 3:59pm
its between this one and the cockerel one. both are vastly different but i guess its about what the general public want in an advert. which one gets embraced more. my opinion is the c o c k ad but this one gets a 'yes' due to creativity in the tagline. well done also.
13th Nov 2007 10:01pm
i really like this design, its easy to understand, but the message is there as well. I like the text at the bottom, because it make YOU an d HI V stand out even more
15th Nov 2007 10:33am
well done john, i really like the idea, quite clever using the HIV for a high five
15th Nov 2007 1:20pm
Really simple, I'm not sure about the HI-V thing though, I might be a bit too slow to understand :/ But all together a good idea. :)
16th Nov 2007 10:29am
everybody seems to be producing posters with one solitary animal and a quick reference slogan. this one gets a yes from me because it makes you think, and is creative genius. i do like the cat and the cockerel.. but they dont say an awful lot. well done on creating a perplexing poster that says so much when understood..
16th Nov 2007 12:26pm
probably cleverer than most the poster's on here. but perhaps too clever.. thats why it isnt a yes from me..
16th Nov 2007 1:06pm
Even though Hi-5 is a orange squash i still think that this is a great poster!!!Make the font more clear, I THINK WE HAVE A WINNER HERE!!!
20th Nov 2007 10:32am
i like this poster the picture and tagline are very clear and cleverly put together.
20th Nov 2007 10:45am
sigh
21st Nov 2007 10:20am
too many cliches for me. very cheesy, doesn't really have any impact other than it could be in a clinic designed by a nurse, sorry. I'm sure there are other interesting way to communicate the idea of HI V..
21st Nov 2007 3:27pm
whats with the redness of the image... perhaps it would be better if you had a better photograph... can see the idea tho.
22nd Nov 2007 8:39am
i do not see the correlation between a high five and HIV. there is no real clear message in my opinion.
22nd Nov 2007 4:11pm
it's a witty play on HIV but that is all.. this is not a good idea! the strap line does not make sense, the viewer is not receiving a high five, and HIV is not an object so "the" doesn't work, also what do the "..." at the end of the sentence represent? this is a typical example of a witty but irrelevant idea that is badly designed, i find it hard to believe you have an interest in graphic design if this is the level of work you are producing!
22nd Nov 2007 11:10pm
i like this idea. innovative and one of the only original ideas here. The only criticism, i feel the HI-V idea should be more obvious and maybe played on abit because a lot of people on nights out won't understand it as high five.
23rd Nov 2007 12:05am
exactly. it is hard to think of an idea. and this one isnt cliched. it is perhaps a little hard to distinguish beten high five and HI V. but i can see the idea behind it. the design is nice looking and the colour is really nice;. goes with the image. good effort.
23rd Nov 2007 2:21pm
you say you've spent time conducting 'thorough and detailed research'. this has clearly been time wasted. it severely lacks any relevance to the brief other than the risk of catching HIV. it annoys me the way you talk about this poster being something special. it definitely isn't.
23rd Nov 2007 3:38pm
Clever idea but needs work. Especially the font!!!
23rd Nov 2007 8:55pm
seriously...
25th Nov 2007 7:41pm
cliched or cheesy? i think it has a serious poignant message. maybe change the colour tho it looks a litttle dramatic and harsh. well done tho :)
26th Nov 2007 5:28pm
well done. nice image with a brill tagline. maybe the colour could be changed to a sort of blue to combat the logo? but i am nit picking. good effort. defo up there!
28th Nov 2007 4:45pm
Love the concept but idiots wouldn't understand it and the design is very early 1990's!
29th Nov 2007 1:45pm
sort tha font out m8! and u gota chance. well done.
3rd Dec 2007 5:33pm
this makes me stop cos it is attractive. this also has a message that will make me stop, for the pun. and because it is a strong and bold statement. this hits the brief bang on! well done. def deserves to be higher.
3rd Dec 2007 6:30pm
I think this poster takes the issue of HIV seriously and I that is why its my favourite. Beans
5th Dec 2007 11:46am
good idea
5th Dec 2007 4:48pm
j_stevenson
mint! idea but the text doesn't go with it, try a different font.
